Quiet Strength off the Coast - Janice Byer Photography

An impressive Royal Canadian Navy ship, the HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337), silently navigating through the Northumberland Strait between New Brunswick & PEI. HMCS Fredericton is a Halifax class helicopter frigate, commissioned in 1994, with a homeport in Halifax, and named after Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Framed by lush green shrubbery in the foreground, this air-to-sea photograph depicts the grace and power of this extraordinary vessel as it proudly sails along Canadian waters enroute to its next port of call. The winds during this trip were fairly light creating tiny waves and white caps in the water.

The ships motto is “Stalker of the Seas” which reflects the imagery of the Bengal tiger in the RCN Ensign and the ship’s role as a warship, emphasizing its stealth, readiness, and ability to hunt for threats in the maritime environment.

The number 337 is the ship’s hull classification symbol (FFH 337, where FFH stands for Frigate Helicopter). It is a functional identifier for the vessel within the RCN fleet and the broader naval community, rather than carrying specific symbolic meaning itself.
